La entrada número 501 no es, casualmente, la 501 escrita en mi blog, sino que está como un par de docenas por detrás de esa cantidad. Cuando mudé el blog desde mi cuenta en Livejournal copié todas las entradas, incluyendo los borradores y otros posts que luego borré, y de allí que al final quedaron publicados menos de los que la numeración dice. No que importe realmente… pero ya que estoy estrenando post con número un poco cabalístico (o al menos particular), bien podía incluir la trivia.
Continuando con lo escrito en la entrada 499, dos para abajo, en la que rajo sobre los servicios postales del mundo y más para allá, lo lógico sería que ahora diera reporte de la Misión De Recojo Y Recuperación De Paquetes En La Oficina De Aduanas Postales, pero sorprendentemente no hay nada qué decir al respecto… salvo que, si así de rápido y eficiente atendieran todo el tiempo, nunca rajaría de ellos. Para evitar lo pasado la vez anterior en que tuve que ir a recoger un paquete (llegué 45 minutos después de abierta la oficina y ya había una larga cola de gente desubicada, molesta e impaciente esperando), decidí ir temprano. Tan temprano, que a pesar de que me cogió una tremenda congestión desde Yerbateros hasta el centro de todas maneras logré llegar antes de que abrieran la oficina. Me atendieron casi de inmediato, revisaron el paquete, lo volvieron a sellar y me lo dieron. Así de fácil. Lo difícil fue tener que tomar carro de regreso en el centro porque con las obras de destrucción de siempre, el Paseo Colón y alrededores parecen más una zona bombardeada.
Y así es como completé otra etapa más en todo el proceso que es tener un ball-jointed doll. Porque, verán, sí es como un proceso que se va haciendo por etapas: primero decides qué BJD quieres, planificas, te organizas, te pones a ahorrar y en el camino te preguntas porqué estos muñecos son tan caros… hasta que logras comprarte uno y descubres que en realidad conseguirte el muñeco en sí es sólo como la parte superficial de todo el proceso gastacional del hobby. Muchas tiendas y artistas independientes venden sus BJD en sets completos que incluyen el muñeco, el maquillaje, la peluca, la ropa y cualquier otro accesorio que pueda tener, pero la mayoría ofrece sólo el muñeco y el maquillaje por un precio extra. Es por eso que digo que conseguir el muñeco es el principio: después ves cuánto cuesta conseguirle la ropa, las pelucas, los accesorios… Allí es cuando te preguntas también porqué la ropa para un muñeco de 60cm es mucho más cara que ropa para gente de escala 1/1.
La duración del proceso depende de la disponibilidad del bolsillo y de qué tanto se tenga decidido el look y personalidad del muñeco, supongo. En mi caso, me he tardado nueve meses en que mi primer BJD, Ezra, tenga un look que realmente me gusta, aunque realmente nunca le creé una historia ni una personalidad. No es un imperativo en el hobby y queda a decisión de cada cual si siquiera tu muñeco necesita un nombre; en lo personal he encontrado que sí te ayuda, empero, porque así es más fácil decidir el aspecto de tu BJD. Te ayuda también a centralizar los gastos en lo que realmente te gustaría comprar para tu muñeco en vez de estar gastando a diestra y siniestra en cosas que tal vez luego no vas a ponerle ni para la foto. En fin, ahora que tengo casi completo mi segundo BJD (en el sentido de que al fin tiene cabeza + cuerpo) se me ocurre que tal vez me demore más en “terminar” su apariencia. Primera, porque le estoy haciendo algunas modificaciones que tomarán tiempo. Y segundo, porque a diferencia de Ezra, de quien pensé al menos vagamente qué aspecto le daría apenas lo compré, para este segundo muñeco todavía no tengo una idea clara de qué quiero hacer con él. Mientras lo pienso… fotos del recién llegado.
En la comunidad de BJD es usual tomar fotografías de la “apertura de la caja”, es decir, de cuando se recibe el muñeco del correo y se abre el paquete. Yo nunca he tomado esas fotos porque a) aduanas me abre los paquetes antes y b) lo más importante, siempre lo olvido. En esta ocasión fue mi madre la que volvió a abrir el paquete (si algo saben hacer los de aduanas, es sellar tu caja con harta cinta de embalaje) con un cuchillo de cocina, y un poco a la mala. Parecía que ella estaba más interesada que yo en ver el cuerpo del muñeco.
Para no asustar, primero pondré una foto de cómo se veía el muñeco antes de que sacara la sierra y la lija.
…Vestido con ropa de Ezra que le quedó muy chica porque todavía se me van un poco las medidas a la hora de comprar. El nombre de mi segundo BJD es Carmine (lo tomé de un cuento de Ricardo Palma) y, como espero se note un poco aquí, era originalmente una muñeca. En el sentido de que era femenino.
Compré la cabeza hace unos tres meses; es una Zaoll Luv de uretano, no resina francesa. Intenté hacerle un face-up antes de que se me acabara el sellador de pintura, pero hoy se le borré para dejarla tal y como se ve en la foto de arriba. Para que no se asusten, así es como puede verse con maquillaje apropiado… aunque nunca me gustó los que le hace la compañía que vende los muñecos, Dollmore.
Como verán, la cabeza es originalmente el de una muñeca y el cuerpo que recibí hace unos días era también femenino (pero de otra compañía, Angel of Dream). Podré poner la cabeza en el cuerpo y me pareció que las proporciones le quedaban muy bien, puesto que Zaoll Luv es una muñeca de 52cm de estatura mientras que el cuerpo en el que la puse es de 58cm, pero no me convenció el aspecto “total” que tenía. Entonces decidí tratar una modificación que había tenido en mente desde hace un tiempo:
…Y sometí a Carmine a una operación de cambio de sexo. Si escribí líneas arriba que Carmine se había visto “así” antes de que cogiera la sierra es porque literalmente aserré el muñeco. Bueno, los senos del muñeco. Es que era bastante pechugona.
No le tomé fotos al cuerpo antes de la mastectomía radical, pero en esta toma (que es lo más cercano que tengo) se nota un poco el busto. En la página de Angel of Dream encontrarán una foto que, aparte de verse increíblemente peor que las mías, muestra cómo es el cuerpo original. En las fotos siguientes muestro porqué creo que es un excelente muñeco, muy bien hecho y esculpido, pero en cuestiones estéticas no me gustó cómo se veía con la cabeza de la Zaoll Luv. Y es que la cabeza es pequeña y el cuerpo, un tanto voluptuoso para ella.
Y así pasé al Plan De Contigencia En Caso De Que No Me Gustara El Cuerpo Conseguido Para Carmine, Plan B para acortar: modificar el cuerpo para hacerlo masculino. En la teoría es sencillo: quitar los senos. En la práctica es fácil, aunque lo más probable es que nunca más quieras ver una lija en tu vida: hay que lijar los seños para “desaparecerlos”. Idealmente, la modificación pide que se reesculpa los músculos pectorales junto con las tetillas y, si queremos ser detallistas y anatómicamente correctos, también se esculpen los genitales masculinos… pero digamos que mi habilidad da para la teoría y la práctica nada más.
Los cuerpos femeninos (“Tipo 1″) de Angel of Dream son de buen tamaño, dejen que les cuente, así que calculé que si los lijaba iba a terminar para el próximo año. De modo que decidí pasar al Plan AG (Al Guerrazo): aserré la mayor parte de los senos, corté lo que pude (incluyendo cuatro de mis dedos, pero ésto fue por mero accidente con los cutter se entiende), y pasé más 10 horas lijando el fin de semana. No les exagero. El domingo por la noche el brazo derecho se me quería caer él solito y todavía me duele, por lo que he dejado el resto del trabajo para después. Porque, si se fijan, todavía me falta lijar más para darle una consistencia uniforme a la resina, borrar los cortes y aplanarle un poco más los pectorales. Los senos eran tan pronunciados, que no sólo fue cuestión de lijar en la parte anterior del torso sino también a los lados (piensen en 3D y en una modelo o actriz realmente dotada por delante).
Olvidaba mencionar que Carmine mide 58cm mientras que Ezra tiene 62cm de alto. Como ven, cuatro centímetros para nosotros no serán más que 40mm, pero cuando eres un BJD sí cuentan.
Tomé algunas fotos para demostrar que este cuerpo está bien hecho (suena curioso cuando lo dices así, lo sé) y es bastante bueno para posar. Algo que notar aquí es que la compañía tensa bastante el elástico de sus muñecos; desarmé el cuerpo para poder aserrarlo (entre las otras torturas al que lo sometí) y el volver a ensamblarlo me tomó como hora y media. Lo curioso es que usé el mismo elástico pero ahora las piernas le han quedado más sueltas, como si el elástico hubiese cedido. Eso sí, el de los brazos está demasiado tirante y sí se lo quiero cambiar por otro.
Echándose a un lado, como haciéndole barrita a Ezra. Lo dejé en el sillón de atrás para tomarle las fotos a Carmine pero ya que se coló en las fotos, allí lo dejé. Supuse que era más interesante que ver los cojines de colores.
Echándose al otro lado. No pude enderezarle el brazo izquierdo porque, aparentemente, se lo coloqué mal. O algo así. No logro hacer que se ponga derecho y se sale de la articulación.
Yo no puedo hacer eso. Bueno, en realidad, no creo que pueda imitar ninguna de las poses en las que aparece Carmine aquí. El cuerpo de Angel of Dream posa bien, pero mantiene esas poses todavía mejor. No es difícil dar con el equilibrio del cuerpo en las poses simples que ven aquí. Eso sí, debido al elástico tan tenso tengo problemas con las articulaciones de las rodillas y de los codos, por lo que aquí no tengo fotos en las que doble las piernas…
…Salvo para sentarse, lo que de todas formas me tomó un poco de tiempo. Una toma a sus manos, que también modifiqué. Si revisan la primera foto de la entrada verán que tiene los dedos mucho más separados; recuerdo que alguien en el foro de DoA lo llamó la pose del rigor mortis, y se le parece. Además de aparentar un rictus mortal, los dedos me daban problemas para vestir al muñeco porque las manos no pasaban fácilmente por las mangas, o corría el riesgo de que algún dedo se atorara en la ropa y se partiera al forzarlo. Así que más tortura china: cambié ligeramente la posición de los dedos usando agua hirviendo (el calor hace un poco moldeable a la resina).
Detalle de los pies. Debido a que la parte que vendría a ser el tobillo es una pieza separada de las pantorrillas y de los pies, estos últimos tienen mucha más movilidad y pueden inclinarse de esta manera. En la práctica, sirve si le vas a poner zapatos de taco al muñeco: como verán, la resina es sólida y no es como si los BJD pudieran empinar el pie si no tienen una articulación allí…
Otras dos cosas por saber de mi muñeco: lo primero es que, como ven aquí, la resina de la cabeza no combina con la del cuerpo. No es tan obvio en las otros fotos, pero aquí sí se nota con claridad. Lo segundo es que esta cabeza no tiene un headcap, la tapa de literalmente la parte superior del cráneo que se abre para ponerle los ojos y ajustar el gancho que la une al cuerpo, sino un faceplate. O sea…
…O sea, le quitan la parte anterior del rostro. Varias compañías y artistas usan este tipo de mecanismo (que no tiene nada de mecánico, puesto que el rostro está sujeto con un imán – o con un poco de cinta adhesiva, como hago yo); si no me equivoco, apareció en principio para poder cambiarle los rostros a los diversos moldes de sus muñecos. Por ejemplo, si tenían ya un muñeco, ponían a la venta sólo el rostro, el faceplate, con otra expresión, y esta parte era más barata que comprar toda una cabeza entera. Los faceplates más comunes que recuerdo son aquellos que mostraban a los muñecos con ojos semiabiertos (llamados sleeping) o cerrados (Elfdoll llamó a estos últimos reminiscence).
El rostro no aprecia el no tener cabeza a la cual pertencer.
Y hablando de cabezas, había pensado originalmente en teñir todo este muñeco. “Teñir”, porque el método que se suele usar emplea un tinte para telas. El proceso “verdadero” implica añadir el tinte cuando se hace la resina, pero para los que no tuvimos para comprar nuestros BJDs en otros colores o queríamos un color que todavía no estaba en el catálogo, está el método más simple, barato y no perenne de usar tinte para ropa para pintar la resina superficialmente. Pero como una amiga me hizo ver, aunque el método en sí es fácil no hay nada que garantice que se obtenga los resultados que no quiere: el tinte puede no pegar, el muñeco queda con manchas, o las partes salen todas de una tonalidad distinta, aparte de como yo ya he lijado (y aserrado, y cortado, y metido en agua hirviendo, y…) a mi muñeco, el tinte definitivamente va a pintar de una forma distinta esas partes.
Así que antes de malograr un muñeco que recién acabo de recibir (y una cabeza que, como ya escribí, no es tan fácil de conseguir porque no se suele vender por separado), recordé el anime de Durarara!! y un personaje en particular. Si no saben nada de este anime basta con que vean la primera secuencia de apertura (porque va a cambiar en un par de episodios más, si mal no recuerdo) que, además de ser muy buena y de arreglárselas para presentar en minuto y medio al cast bastante grande de esta historia, muestra un personaje femenino que tiene una cicatriz en el cuello… y la cabeza de un color distinto al del cuerpo. Bueno, Carmine ya está frankesteinizado y modificado… Y además, tener mi Franken Dollie podría inspirarme para, ahora sí, darle una personalidad y una historia de fondo. La típica sería la del experimento humano (o muñequil) fallado… pero también podría poner que simplemente es el experimento de una creadora *cof cof* con pocos escrúpulos ético-biológicos y todavía menos habilidad para las modificaciones corporales…
Mientras lo pienso (y es que primero tendría que terminar con la lijada y a estas alturas ya no quiero ver una lija en mi vida), Carmine seguirá echado por allí, preguntándose cuándo le voy a conseguir ropa que no sea la que no le queda a su hermano de resina mayor, y de paso una peluca porque a pesar de que tiene buena calva, creo que ese look no va con él.
Ezra, por su parte, puede mostrarte condescendiente y un poco cachoso por ser 4cm más alto que Carmine.
Hablando de estatura, y aunque creo que el cuerpo modificado de Angel of Dream queda muy bien en cuanto a proporciones, definitivamente prefiero los muñecos con figuras mucho más estilizadas. A lo Clamp: como dos metros de piernas para cada personaje en promedio.
No tendrá dos metros sino sólo como 36-38cm de pierna (contando desde las caderas), pero igual me encanta la figura estilizada de los muñecos de DragonDoll. Pareciera que fue por las reacciones y respuestas del público, sin embargo, que la compañía pasó a hacer un cuerpo de 62cm más grueso y menos estilizado, y las cabezas de sus muñecos más grandes también. Curioso que de todos los muñecos que tienen actualmente sólo Di (el modelo de Ezra) mantenga una cabeza relativamente pequeña, de 20cm de circunferencia (los otros tienen entre 22-23cm, y como ven cuando eres un BJD un centímetro hace mucho diferencia). Allí está la razón por la cual no estoy considerando comprar otro DragonDoll.
…A menos que sea para hacer un muñeco híbrido. No es como si pudiera comprar otro muñeco pronto y, de hecho, en este momento ni siquiera puedo conseguir ropa, zapatos o una peluca para Carmine, pero ayuda a tener las ideas claras para ir organizándote en este hobby. He pensado que mi siguiente BJD, aunque pronto no vendrá, será un tiny (un muñeco de 27cm-30cm de altura que usualmente representa a un bebé o un niño muy pequeño), tal vez Ni de Bobobie/Resinsoul, o una Nekomimi de Fantasy Doll (también considerada una tiny, aunque éstos en particular son llamados anthros). O un hibrido de 70cm+ con la cabeza de un Dollshe Saint, el BJD que desde siempre me ha quitado el sueño – y que me lo ha devuelvo de porrazo, porque de sólo pensar que el muñeco completo cuesta $750 uno cae desmayado allí mismo. Por eso digo, un híbrido, aunque realmente no me interesan mucho los muñecos de 70cm o más y preferiría quedarme en la escala de los de 60cm. Regresando a lo que escribía al principio del párrafo: me compraría otro DragonDoll sólo si quisiera hacer otro híbrido de 60cm (bueno, 62cm), ya sea masculino o femenino. Pero como puse, quiero el tercero de mi familia de resina sea o bien más pequeño, o bien más alto…
Almost non-related photo, Ezra de perfil. Porque hasta ahora no le había tomado nunca una foto de perfil, y de paso para lucir la peluca, una Monique JoJo 7-8′ en rubio dorado y morado. El dato propagandístico no tiene nada de importancia, lo sé, salvo que lo estoy mencionaod porque resulta que me gusta tanto esta peluca, y como casualmente la compañía que la produce la tiene en diversos colores en su catálogo, que estoy pensando que necesito otra, sí, pero esta vez rosada. Acuso seria falta de pelucas rosadas para la colección de mis muñecos.

Mientras que por un lado Carmine se preguntaba a qué venía la sesión fotográfica al natural y qué tenía que ver Ezra parado y haciendo de adorno en el fondo…
…Resulta que Ezra se estaba preguntando lo mismo. Lo tengo desde hace nueve meses (aunque calculo que ya debe de haberse cumplido un año desde que lo hicieron): ya sé qué está pasando por su cabeza de resina, por más que ésta sólo tenga un gancho S para conectarla con su cuerpo. Y, bueno, sé que en el fondo tampoco le gusta hacer de adorno; es por eso que se escapa por las noches del stand en el que usualmente lo dejo de pie y se va a merodear la casa, justo cuando nadie lo ve (aunque mis amigos juran que ellos sí).
¡Vaya tu si eres hardcore! Nunca he hecho algo parecido con algo de ese precio, ni siquiera con el muñeco de madera que solía usar como modelo para dibujos, y la mecánica es de cierta forma similar. Tal vez he jugado con hardware para PC, pero nunca nada como lijarlos, aunque se que hay gente que lo hace, los míticos modders.
Lo que me provoca al ver tus fotos y leer de precios es comprar una pequeña máquina de coser, hacer docenas de trajecillos y venderlos, aunque no sepa ni de costura ni de moda.

¡Hardcore! Nah, no creo que me merezca ese adjetivo. Más bien, hay gente que no se atreve ni a quitarle el cabello de más que sobresale de la peluca de sus muñecos porque éstos son limitados o le dan un nuevo sentido a la palabra “caros”… pero yo soy de los que piensa que uno de los atractivos de los ball-jointed dolls es que los puedes personalizar. Claro, si tuviera en cambio un muñeco de $750 me lo pensaría dos veces antes de hacerle cualquier modificación… y luego pasaría a modificarlo. Como dije, para mí los BJDs son para customizar…
Mi hermana tiene un muñeco de madera también y es cierto, la mecánica es similar. Por lo pronto, son similares la forma de las articulaciones, salvo que un BJD mantiene unida todas las partes que forman el cuerpo de un muñeco con elástico tensado. Si algún día te animas a hacer ropa para muñecos, pues, te diré que si sabes cómo “colocar” tus productos puede que des con el negocio de tu vida: no es raro ver en este hobby a gente que empezó cosiendo ella misma la ropa para sus muñecos y luego puso su “tienda virtual” (porque en la práctica siguen trabajando en el cuarto de costura de la casa, pero venden por internet). Tienes los que venden modestamente hasta lo que te hacen trajes para muñecos de $300+. Allí tienes un buena razón para aprender de costura (y ver qué está de moda en el mundo muñequil).
Y yo… Bueno, con sierras, cuchillas y lijas me entiendo (tal vez me anime a molder con epoxi para darle esa corrección anatómica que necesita mi muñeco), pero jamás me acercaré a una máquina de coser. Nací negada para la costura, defitivamente.

Yeah, after all your fears and stress you deserved at least a bit easier mission of freeing body of Carmine from Evil Custom Organization. Ha ha, indeed, in this hobby one must also master the virtue of patience. I’ll be training it again soon, April is coming and I will order my second boy… Hoping he will be here for my holiday at the beginning of August XD.
For now I have to work on my activity on DoA, because currently I can’t enter the Marketplace. Which, I think, is not that bad – I really can’t afford to give more money now, or I will never start with my renovation XD. And my room will really turn into a cave soon ^^’.
Awwww, I can understand your pain – Dollshe Saint is one of your dream dollies, am I right ? But it would be really hard to get good, tan body for him, I think… Not, that I had any experience in that matter.
I’m also thinking about buying new clothes for my boys – well, for Cadriel right now. I even saw something “completely different” for him and I guess I’ll try to buy him some modern clothes. I also want to order three fur/mohair (I’m not sure which is it XD) wigs from AS along with Hua Xi, just to see, how my boys will look in short hair and different colours than their default ones.

You know, somehow I knew, that Carmine won’t be girl for long. She’s (was ^^) very pretty girl, but Zaoll made such beautiful boys, that it would be waste *hides from female Zaoll fans*. And I can fully understand that and I approve it greatly ^^ – as a soon-to-be “mother” of two boys myself. And let me tell you – you did fantastic work with that modification. I can only imagine, how much, time, strength and effort it took to sand such pretty big boobies, but the result is stunning ! If not for the lack of the “lower parts” I would be sure its boys body. You can see the difference only when looking longer, so your first (so serious) modification is a big success ! Indeed, after sanding the dyeing would be even more risky, and besides, I still like the idea of Frankencarmine very much ! And I’m happy with you, that the artist, whom you choose has agree for the commission ! I can’t wait to see the results, also by blushing – I have feeling that Carmine will turn into such handsome boy as Ezra.
You are so right about face-up… I would prefer to have nekkid doll but with proper face-up than the other way around. When the face-up is finished, the doll looks really alive and complete, even without clothes or shoes. Beside, its not like Carmine doesn’t have any clothes at all, so the face-up has the priority and I really want to see the final result ^_^ ! For me, it’s the proper order of things – eyes and face-up first, then wig, then clothes ^_-.
Yes, Durarara!! is the perfect example, that good anime doesn’t have to be 200 episodes long, with cast that no one is able to remember and tons of fillers after every episode that had something do with the general plot. To be honest, I’m tired with such series, I rarely have the strength to watch them until the end. I even stopped watching Bleach, because fillers become really absurd and dominated the whole series. I still love manga, I adore characters, but anime is just boring and you can clearly see, as the animation quality is dropping. Duels and fights looks almost the same every time, some frames are repeated again, and again, and again. It pains be, because in the beginning it was almost perfect series… I guess this is the fate of most long anime series, so I decided to avoid them, concentrating on shorter, more “concentrated” series, which has the proper story to tell and are able to do it in 12-26 episodes, and Durarara fits perfectly to that category (that said, I started watching Gintama XD). I like to see, how stories of different characters are tired up to each other, building the main plot. And I must say, heroes are really original and well written, beginning with Celty and ending with Simon (I would love to hear him speaking more Russian ^_-).
Awwww, Shizuo is one of my favs too (no worries, I saw the episode with his past), especially in pair with Izaya. I wouldn’t mind seeing them more often, their fights are hilarious. Such clear, pure, untainted hate…
No, I didn’t heard about Scriptfrenzy, but I think that you have great idea ! I would love to read about your boys ! Will you include your dream ?
To be honest, when I first started to think about buying a BJD, I had a thought, that maybe I should buy one, that would resemble, or could be turn into one of my existing characters, but… I dropped that idea for several reasons. First, I couldn’t decide, WHICH character should be “dolliefied”. Second, like I told you, I rarely know, how my characters look exactly, so I couldn’t find the dolls, that I would see and say “Oh my, he looks exactly like Thanatos/Ayderan/Kyannan/other chara”. Third, if I would start such thing, I would constantly feel urge to dollyfy more and more of my characters, and that would be straight way to bancrupcy. Finally, I would never think of a doll as of the character it should represent, only as a doll that resembles him. And that wouldn’t be fair for the poor doll. So I chose the same road as you did, I’ll let my doll develop their own personalities and I’ll let them became new, original characters, independent of the rest of my “children” from my novels, fanfics and stories.
My first attempt of an haircurt wasn’t anything big, really – I only shortened the fringe a little, so it’s not recognizable on a first view (but I will send you some pic soon ^^), but thanks to that, wig fits a bit better now. Yes, I was really afraid that I will ruin the wig… It still is too big, and sometimes it slips on his forehead, which makes me panic, because I’m afraid, that it will crape his brow…
The thought about restringing still sends shiver down my spine. Cadriel doesn’t need it right now (although it would be good for his hands, which tend to always going back to “kangaroo” position but I know that one day a will had to it… Brrrrrr… I will probably be dead scared, that I will ruin my doll.
Oh yes, I know what you mean – I know that Cadriel will be very whimsical boy. I already have the feeling, that he doesn’t like some poses, when I’m trying to take some of my poor attempts of a photos. And, of course, he doesn’t take them. I already have no authority in my cat eyes, now even my doll don’t listen to me. It can be depressing ^_-. Ha ha, I did have a story for him and almost full personality, before he arrived. But after I saw him, it struck me, that it doesn’t fit him one bit. In my story he was cold, composed, even a bit cruel – and in reality he looked more like scared boy from a good family, kidnapped and left alone in some strange place. Now he seems to feel more like at home, but I know, that I have to let him develop by himself… So yes, it will take some time ^_^.
You are right, when I was trying to decide for my first (and then second ^^) doll, I found that there are very few photos of AS dolls, especially male dolls, on DoA. And there even fewer owner pics of Hua Xi… But that, what I saw, convinced me, that it is a good choice.

And, as always, few words about video games ^^. Or almost – did you see new trailer of Basara anime ? Seems like Hideyoshi indeed will be main bad guy this time ^^. And about FF XIII… Well, I didn’t finish the game (I have the feeling I’m near the end, so I have to level up a bit) but so far I like it. It feels different from other Final Fantasies – somehow it is less epic, also character feels more human, more… normal than usual. Maybe it’s because this game seems to be shorter – there are almost no side-missions, almost no mini-games and it is VERY linear, more than any jRPG I played. But it’s still pretty fun to play, new combat system is interesting and flexible, plus I really like the character – in the main cast there is only one person, that annoys me. Maybe you will play it, so I don’t want to spoil anything – I can only say, that this FF is very different from other, yet it’s a very good game that doesn’t deserve this whole hate campaign. Different doesn’t mean worse, really. Of course, if you would like to hear detailed review, just let me know !
On the other hand, I liked FF XII very much and many people seems to hate it with passion, so maybe I’m not the best reviewer ^_-.

August! Let me tell you: you’re a very patient person, indeed. In your place, I’d be already ranting like crazy about AS and probably leaving bad feedback on their waiting times on DoA. But, you know? I can’t help be a bit jealous of you. You do know what you want and will work hard until getting it – well, even if that means leaving refurnishings and home renovations for later. I’ve seen people think over what their next BJD will be for months and months… and then there are people like me, who don’t really know what they really want until buying the next one on a whim :) But, really, it’s so good to see you’re this organized and dedicated.
Ha, ha… I understand you! I should keep away from the DoA Marketplace, really, or from the “Larger Dolls” subforum at the very least: it isn’t like I’ll be able to afford another doll for quite some time now, but I still like to stalk what other people are selling and that catch my eye. In any case, I think visiting the Marketplace is useful because you can learn about the “business movements” in the BJD world: what molds are still available and at what prices, what’s going on demand right now, or what’s people looking for. Or at least that’s my excuse to be a little more knowledgeable about BJD in general. Another subforum I do visit on a daily basis is “Clothing/Shoes”: you’re most likely bound to come across a good offer sooner than later… and maybe even afford it :) But I really, REALLY recommend you this subforum at the very least, since there are custom clothes you won’t find anywhere else. I haven’t decided on one style for Carmine yet, so an extra excuse to stalk the Marketplace is to take a look at the clothes for sale and see if there’s some trend I like. Although the biggest problem I have now is that Carmine is in a 58cm body (similar to those of the Volks SD13 girls, I think), so the boy clothes I want for him will be loose on him. And I like a fitted look for my dolls ^^
Which reminds me that I haven’t asked this yet: Have you thought of a style for Cadriel yet? You mentioned modern clothes… like in “formal” or maybe more “casual”? Yep, I’m in a question-y mood. In my case, it wasn’t until I tried different wigs on Ezra that I understood why other people said the doll was the one who chose his or her style, not you: even if you have an image on your mind and a style to suit your doll, you might find out it doesn’t really go with it once you’ve tried it out. There’s something screaming a big NO about the whole picture… And, well, that’s how I felt with Ezra until I “reached” his current looks. The trial and error method would work wonders for me, only if I had the money to afford all the clothes I like and see afterward which one suits the best…
To be honest, I don’t know what the difference between fur and mohair wigs is… Uh, I think fur is synthetic, whereas mohair is actual lamb (animal) hair? I’ve heard that mohair wigs look all the more natural because they’re made of real hair, even if they have that frizzy look. Also, I used to like fur wigs because of their easy styling, but I had to learn the facts about them the hard way: after buying a pair from Dollmore. Which turned out to be of very low quality. Unlike other doll wigs, most fur wigs aren’t sewn on a one-piece headcap but on a two or three-part pattern headcap, and they aren’t stretchy. So these wigs I got from Dollmore were the cheap two-part pattern ones which look more like a sock with some fur sewn on the outer side, and wouldn’t fit my dolls’ head because they were too big or too small. So next time I bought from Kon’D and the fur wig I received was great and fitted nicely, too… That was the caramel fur wig Ezra was wearing in one of my past photos.

It’s far from being perfect, but for my first attempt and given my nonexistent skills, I think it went just ok. But I’m seriously considering commissioning another person is I ever feel the need to perform a similar mod, let me tell you! I still don’t want to see a sheet of sandpaper for the remaining of my life… Come to think of it, you’re right: the AOD girl’s body actually looks better as a boy’s body once the boobies are gone. Actually, I’ve seen several people on DoA with hybrid female-to-male modded dolls, all on AoD bodies. The lack of manly bits don’t bother me, but I might try to sculpt some (*blushes… and then sweetdrops*) if I ever get my hands on some epoxy. Just for the anatomical correctness of the sculpt, of course… Oh, the artist who accepted my face-up commission is Chienism of Starbolins (that’s her portfolio at DoA). A most kind person, when I told her I wanted a face-up similar to this AiL Alice she previously worked on, she explained she needed to change the color palette in that case, since the face-up was pretty pinkish and my Zaoll Luv’s head was pink to begin with. Not to mention I wanted a yellowish blushing to match the AoD body… I hadn’t thought about the color palette or anything; I just chose that face-up because I liked it :) Oh, and she said she’d do thinner eyebrows on Carmine as well, just as I like them. I was thinking of asking her for a heavier face-up, such as in this DIM Jullis, but even if I don’t have Carmine’s personality yet, I thought I wanted a more natural look for him. I sent the head on Thursday so hopefully it should be arriving before this weekend… oh, and the trip to the post office was an experience I’d prefer not repeating again. It took me like an hour just to finish filling in all forms, including a police statement noting that I wasn’t sending anything illegal, and I was required to leave my fingerprint on both one form and said police statement. It didn’t help that I had to explain in detail what the contents of the package were (for customs declaration), and it wasn’t a good idea to describe the head as a “cranium”. It was just that the lady at the office didn’t understand why I wanted to send a “doll’s head” (guess she was thinking of a doll such as a Barbie or similar)… not to mention a pair of “eyes” and “hair” (the wig). She got this funny idea of human organs traffic and had a laughter fit that lasted for quite some minutes and felt pretty uncomfortable, *sighs* Next time I’m sending a head for a face-up commission, I’m not going to that post office.
Oh yes, I’m hoping for Carmine to be as handsome as Ezra :) I’m quite proud of my first boy, Ezra, even if his masculinity has been questioned by all my relatives so far *sighs again* I actually got very annoyed yesterday: my aunt was visiting and found me in the middle of a photoshooting with Ezra. She got intrigued by my doll… and argued I was wrong because that was a female doll, not a male one. I was tired of hearing that comment by then, so I asked what was wrong with my doll looking more femenine rather than manly… and she said that it was wrong because a “femmy man would be mistaken by a gay”. When I then asked her what was wrong with gays, she argued that “it was overly wrong, a man with another man…” You can well imagine how annoyed at her homophobic and intolerant comment I was. But I knew my auntie and knew she was quite intransigent and very, VERY narrowminded, so I just didn’t want to keep on the argument and finished it on the spot. I used to complain about people saying my doll was creepy, but it turns out now that my doll is a vehicle for sexual identity and tolerance discussions? Next time someone tells me my dolls looks wrong because he’s so femmy, that person will automatically earn a lecture on sexual themes and homophoby, I swear.
Oops, sorry, don’t mean to pile up my hobby frustrations on you. Especially not when you’re having such bad days. So sorry to hear about that, too… I’m hoping your days are brightening up. Um, guess we can talk anime, then? We’ve finished the first half of Durarara!! so I’m guessing the next half will center on the characters whose stories haven’t been disclosed yet. There are the light novels, of course, but I’d rather not spoil myself and wait for the anime to unfold. Speaking of it, the latest episode has a twist I wasn’t really expecting but that was sort of cliché… It worked wonderfully nonetheless, and this proves the series has excellent narration then :) Oh, Shizuo is pure LOVE. I don’t like Izaya that much, but you have to love the Shizuo + Izaya chemical. Yeah, pure and untainted hate, indeed! My siblings and I joke about Shizuo’s warcry being “I-ZA-YAAAAAaaaa…!” and compare it to Aya Fujimiya’s “Takatori shineeeee…!”, if you know about Weiss Kreuz. It was the first role by Takehito Koyasu I fell in love with; I never really liked the anime series, but I used to listening to the CD dramas just for Koyasu. And, well, Daisuke Ono can very well become one of my favorites with his Shizuo’s perfomance and warcry… And now you’re watching Gintama! Ha ha, such an anime that is. I read the few first volumes of the manga and it was dead funny, including its toilet humor – literally, since there can’t be a Gintama gag if there isn’t a scene revolving around a toilet. I watched a few episodes featuring either Hijikata (Nakai!) or Takasugi (Koyasu!), but have lost sight of the anime since then and the news about the series being canceled, an upcoming movie, an OVA I think, and many other media just confuse me…
I watched like 20 episodes of Bleach before giving up on the anime, just as the animation quality dropped considerably (and I’ve been told it gets even worse during the fillers). I think it’s a shame that the manga is stalling as well: I used to love Bleach because of their dynamic, fast-pacing fights, and that’s more than I can say about the manga for the past, uh, 150 chapters or so. Actually, I keep on reading the manga because it’s included in my weekly Shounen Jump pack (I look for and download Katekyo Hitman Reborn, One Piece, Naruto and Bleach). Out of the whole pack, the only manga that still has my preferences, and has had it for the past 12 years (can’t believe I’ve been reading it for so long already), it’s One Piece. Yep, it might be almost 600 chapters by now, might have a cast of dozens and dozens of characters now, might get silly, crazy, absurd and so LOL at times, but it’s another great example of narration in my opinion. Gee, other Shounen Jump mangakas could learn from Eiichirou Oda, really… Anyway, getting back to Bleach, it seems “something” is going to happen at last – it was sort of funny when my siblings asked me what was going on in the manga; as I told them Ichigo was still fighting the Big Mean Bad Guy, they said, “but you told us that last week… and last month too… actually, you’ve been telling us that for the past two months or so”. If it hadn’t been for them, I wouldn’t have realized nothing was really happening at the manga for ages now…
I think I’m like you, except that I never know what my characters look like. Actually, I never really think about my characters look like past being tall, blonde, having blue eyes and little traits and marks like those. I suffer from sort of a “visual blockade” if it’s about imagining places or people… I’ve always had trouble picturing graphic images on my mind. Guess that’s why I only decided how a character of mine would look after finishing Ezra: it was like saying, “hey, my character can look like him” and not the other way round. But I want to follow your example: to let my dolls be my dolls, and not the representation of a character. At the very least, I’d like to give them a well-developed story and a personality, for I think it adds to the feeling of “completition” of the doll as a whole project, piece of art or as every and each doll owner and artist would like to call their resin boys (and girls). There’ll always be a character or two I want to dollify, though, but not my original chars. Poison from Final Fight is one project; fortunately, she doesn’t demmand lots of customizations, but then again I’ll have to wonder whether she’ll fit among my girls or rather, boys (if you happen to know about Poison’s actual gender…) And also, I made another post on my blog ranting about close-minded people, on one side, and to talk about the Grell Sutcliffe (from Kuroshitsuji) Minimee head I happened to come across in Deviantart. I really like that character and I LOVE his grin – well, if you can call it a “grin” at all, so that’s another character on my To-Dollify List (not to mention he’s supposed to wear Victorian clothes, yet another fetish *cough cough* of mine). Oh yes, the rant was about those people who are accussing Souldoll of “not doing proper research” because of their four-armed, female doll named Shiva; I’ve seen one person even accussing them of copying Final Fantasy‘s Shiva summon, a statement I think doesn’t hold up at all. Anyway, how about you, Saya? Would you like to dollify an existing character?
I saw your post at DoA, so congrats on that, too! I was browsing through the Box Opening subforum and knew it was your thread even before seeing your nickname: there are so few AS dolls on DoA, I knew that Luxifa had to be yours. Soooo, welcome to the Wonderful World Of Image Posting On A Forum. I forgot to mention something: it seems there are some problems going on with the Albums option at DoA, so there’s no wonder it didn’t let you create yours. The admins at the forum are looking into it, so I guess we just have to wait until it’s up and working properly again. On the meantime, go for the 40 posts mark! Just remember there are some subforums that won’t add to your count if you leave a post there, such as the Doll Memes if I’m right. The Feedback subforums is yet another one that doesn’t add to your count, I think. But that’s no problem: I hit the mark by posting in the General Discussion subforums about such important and relevant (ahem) threads such as “Dreams about your doll” or “How do you choose on your doll’s birthday?” Of course, you can always participate in more discussion-focused threads :)
Thanks for telling me about the new trailer for the Senbasa anime! I never watched the first series and sort of shun all information related to it so I didn’t know a new trailer was available, oopsie. Well, this new series doesn’t get me in the hype either, but I suppose I’ll watch the episodes featuring Hanbei at the very least, *ahem*. And since it looks like the second anime is there to get all fans hyped about SB3, I’m also hoping its storyline sort of connects with the game. Maybe as a prologue to SB3; it’d be great if we could get a glimpse of Mitsunari on it. Yep, I’m dying to see more of the white-haired, vengeful bishie… And about FFXIII, don’t worry and just spoil me! Now that the game has finally been released worldwide I’m hearing all kinds of comments about it: some like it, but the most seem to point out its linear development, even if they do find the game funny. And, well, I suppose that’s the important thing about it, right? I mean, the Persona 3 and 4 games were strictly linear and repetitive from a point of view, but I can hardly think of another game in which repeating a routine in a regular basis (go to school, answer questions, meet people, beat dungeons) can be so fun and envolving. Oh, and maybe FFXIII is my type of game after all: I usually hate side missions or other quests not related to the main plot (speaking of it, you have no idea how much I get bored at the quests and the fishing minigame in P4 – I only did the ones that are strictly required for the game, ie. those related to the Hermit Social Link). But do spoil me, please! I wouldn’t know for sure in your case, but I’ve been reading that quite a lot of people are hating Hope with their guts. Also, I couldn’t giggle a little at the characters’ names – uh, it was sort of weird to have a cast composed of Lightning, Vanille, Snow, Hope and Fang… guess Sazh Katzroy was the only one with your typical made up-sounding name for a fantasy story.
The Scriptfrenzy event begins this Thursday so I should be getting everything together already: I do want to try and go with the “plotbunny” my dream revolving Carmine gave me. In fact, I’m looking forward to use this script writing attempt to better develop Carmine’s personality, since I have this idea of making Ezra the main character in the story… But as things are, Ezra’s personality would be vastly different from what I’d thought for him for the past months. Sort of what happened to you and Cadriel’s story, realizing that the story we had in mind for our boy didn’t suit him once said boy was finally with us. But let me tell you, I laughed a little bit when you wrote that Cadriel looked more like a scared boy from a good family who had ended up in a strange place. I’m hoping you don’t mean “your house” when you say “a strange place” ^^ Or it could be that Cadriel looks this scared because he’s getting used to his new home… Anyway, are you thinking of adding him to the AS database at DoA? It’s not mandatory to have his personality and story decided already for that, since you can always edit your post later. But how come the database is 4 pages long, but there seem to be a lack of AS boys images at the forum? Hmm, most of the entries in the database are of the AS girls, the Minis or Gavin…

Aunque definitivamente me pudo haber salido mejor (y todavía no termino de lijar… pero a estas alturas ya no quiero saber más de lijas), nada salió irreparablemente mal… Uff. Y si no te molesta, ¿podrías darme más detalles sobre tu Harumi? Es decir, qué molde es. Es un poco metiche… pero me gusta preguntarle a los fans que conozco sobre la familia de resina que tienen en casa.
Pues, ¿supongo que te refieres a la página oficial de Monique? Seguramente ya lo habrás escuchado: Monique tiene alguna de las pelucas para BJD de mejor calidad que vas a poder encontrar, y a precios asequibles. Lamentablemente, y como bien lo dices, su página web no inspira mucha confianza… Aunque lo cierto es que jamás he comprado directamente de ellos, no lo recomendaría porque cuando les escribí preguntando sobre gastos de envío, demoraron más de una semana en contestar y sólo aceptaban mandarme el pedido por un método caro (considerando que era por una sola peluca). Es decir, pienso que son confiables puesto que se trata de una empresa reconocida y asentada, pero parecen tardarse su buen tiempo en procesar las órdenes y los gastos de envío no nos salen a cuenta. Así que recomiendo en cambio otros dos sitios de donde suelo comprar mis pelucas Monique, y que son distribuidores:
-Juju’s Dolly Mall: Tienen buen servicio, muy buenas tarifas de envío, demoran unos 3 días en enviarte el pedido (y a Perú por USPS First Class tarda una semana más en llegar).
-My Favorite Doll: Tienda basada en Canadá. Tienen buen servicio también, procesan las órdenes en unos 3 días y por correo simple canadiense me llegan en dos semanas (o 4 días si pagas más por un servicio “expedito”). Pero el catálogo de pelucas Monique que tienen no es tan extenso… a cambio, puedes ver fotos reales de cómo se ven las pelucas en muñecos en vez de usar las de “stock” de Monique.
Y un par de tiendas de las que no he comprado aún pero que tienen buenos comentarios son:
-Jpopdolls. También aquí puedes ver fotos reales de las pelucas; si les he estado ojeando el catálogo desde hace un tiempo es porque tienen varias JoJo en colores especiales (adivina cuál es mi peluca Monique favorita).
Olvidaba mencionar que las tres tiendas anteriores tienen pelucas de la lína Monique Gold Label principalmente (se supone que las de esta línea son de mejor calidad que sus otras pelucas). Un sitio que tiene un catálogo bastante grande de Monique es Audrey’s Dolls; un detalle a tomar en cuenta, sin embargo, es que exigen que cada orden sume por lo menos $25… pero a cambio ofrecen buenos descuentos en casi todos sus productos.
Tal vez fue demasiada información no solicitada… En todo caso, espero que lo que escribí te pueda servir de algo.

Y no, no ha sido demasiada info pues me pondré a comparar los diferentes sitios a ver que resuelvo con eso de la peluca nueva para Harumi, y en cuanto a esta, no es de resina sino de Vinil, mide 16 pulgadas y la compre de Delilah Noir, no es una marca muy reconocida pero hacen buenos modelos, y bueno es hasta el momento para lo que me ha alcanzado mi limitado dinero (mis padres no me dan nada! Ya porque creci y tengo trabajo se han olvidado de la podre Noumi u_u) Jejej, en fin, desde que supe acerca de las BJD he estado como obsesionada con eso, y por eso resolví comprar a Harumi de esa tienda, mientras puedo ahorrar para comprarme la SENIOR DELF HARMONY de LUTS =D. (Igual adoro a Harumi ^^)

Sé un poco de la línea de Delilah Noir, pero sólo porque MFD.net (una de las tiendas que enlazo en mi comentario anterior) también las vende. Por supuesto que no desmerece por de vinilo, ¡por el contrario! Me gusta su línea “Dark” (el modelo llamado Dark and Defiant se ve particularmente muy bien), aunque para ser sincera prefiero mis chicas un poco más maduras.
Ánimo, que cuando a uno le pega la obsesión de los BJD y le echa ganas, todo se puede. Ya podrás comprar a Harmony (un bello molde, es decir BJD, de Luts por cierto). A todo esto, también yo debería ponerme a ahorrar para mi Dollshe Saint y, quién sabe, tal vez pueda comprarlo antes de que se acabe el mundo en el 2012, como los apocalípticos de siempre juran que pasará…

Mira que por lo que cuentas, y por lo que se ve, es casi como dar a luz – sin los dolores de parto, pero imagino que sí con bastantes contrariedades – ahora tienes hijos, Titi!!! Hey, ¿quién dice que este hobby no es como dar a luz? Con dolores incluidos. Aunque la gran mayoría de las transacciones en este hobby se arreglan fáciles, siempre tendrás por allí alguna compra-venta complicada, vendedores deshonestos, compradores incumplidos, aduanas que harán lo imposible por ponerte la vida a cuadritos, el correo y en especial los trabajadores postales que se las ingenian para hacer de la ineptitud un arte… y la tremenda ansiedad de saber que estamos hablando de cientos de dólares en transacciones grandes, con todas las preocupaciones extras que eso implica.
He escuchado de bastante historias de horror y, mira, te paso la mía para graficar: conseguir el cuerpo para Carmine, mi Zaoll Luv que ves en esta entrada, fue casi como dar a luz. Parece que con esa transacción tuve estrés como para compensar el que hasta ese momento no haya tenido un solo problema en el hobby: la vendedora nunca fue muy informativa (del tipo que hay que sacarle los datos a cuentagotas) y justo después de enviarle el dinero cortó comunicación conmigo… pero sólo porque no me mandó el muñeco cuando quedamos y pensó que era mejor idea no avisarme y, de hecho, ignorar todos mis mensajes. Ya después se las arregló para meter el cuerpo en una caja pequeña; tanto, que cuando la vi pensé por un momento que me había estafado, porque era imposible que un muñeco de 58cm entrada ALLÍ. El asunto es que sí entró, doblado en pedacitos y sin más seguridad extra que una manta; casi me pega otro susto porque por otro momento temí que alguna parte hubiera resultado rota o dañada. Y como última cerecita para la torta, resulta que escribió mal mi dirección, a pesar de tenerla escrita en mi recibo de Paypal y de que yo se la mandara sólo por si acaso. Mira, hija, casi nadie el dinero para empezar en este hobby, y ésa es la razón por la que hay que conseguirlo de alguna manera, ¿no? En mi caso, aquí tienes la razón de porqué ya no compro doujinshi más que de vez en cuando, ni tampoco mercadería de anime/manga. Eso sí, yo no tengo la paciencia ni la dedicación para ahorrar duante 2 ó 3 para comprar un BJD de los caros, como otra gente hace… Lo que sí te reconozco es que como anda la situación allá en Venezuela, bien puedo imaginarme que te harían difícil el que compres/te manden un BJD por correo.

Por alguna razón (sí, por cuál será), cuando mencionaste que te gustaría tener un BJD customizado como uno de tus personajes no pudo evitar pensar en que, al menos, te ahorrarías mucho dinero en ropa para tu muñeco… Y es que si tu personaje sale vestido -o mejor dicho, desvestido- como tus fanarts…
